SuperSport United will compete in CAF competitions for the third time in four years, and will kickstart their 2014 CAF Confederations Cup adventure with a home tie against Botswana's Gaborone United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
Last year Matsatsantsa were knocked out by Egyptian side ENNPI in the third round, losing 3-1 on aggregate.
SuperSport qualified for this year's tournament despite being losing finalists in the Nedbank Cup, because the winners Kaizer Chiefs also won the PSL league title and qualified for the Champions League.
Gaborone Utd's coach is none other than Major David Bright, who is a familiar face in South Africa, having coached both Santos and Bay United (now Polokwane City).
It will be their second successive Confederations Cup appearance, and the Botswana club will be hoping to improve on last year's performance where they were knocked out by Liga Muculmana of Mozambique in the first round.
"These CAF competitions are crucial for us and the development of players," SuperSport coach Cavin Johnson told the club's official site before his first taste of continental football as head coach.
The second-leg is due to be played in a week's time with the victor of this preliminary tie meeting the winner between Ethiopia's Defence FC (Mekelakeya) and Kenya's AFC Leopards.
