City beat Chelsea 4-3 on penalties in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, in a game that was overshadowed by Kepa Arrizabalaga's refusal to be substituted by Blues boss Maurizio Sarri.

While most of the headlines focused on the Chelsea shot-stopper's antics, City lifted their 17th major trophy* in their history.

Pep Guardiola's side has claimed five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup, and added their sixth League Cup (or the Carabao Cup, as it is known this season) on the weekend.

The Citizens have now won as many pieces of silverware as rivals Tottenham Hotspur, whose last trophy was the League Cup back in 2007/08 – their only title in the past 28 years.

City, though, are only sixth in the overall ranking of the most successful English clubs, according to English statistics and football money expert Nick Harris, who is also the editor of Sporting Intelligence.

Crosstown rivals United lead the ranking with 42 major titles, one more than Liverpool in second place, before Arsenal complete the podium with 30 pieces of silverware.

* Note: Major trophies are defined as league titles, the two main cups in England and titles won in European competitions, excluding super cups.
