Lionel Messi: Of Course I Miss Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi

FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has insisted that, although people in Madrid get angry at him for saying it, Los Blancos miss his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo – and so does he.

The Argentine won the Pichichi trophy for the top goalscorer in the 2018/19 LaLiga campaign, scoring 15 goals more than second-placed Karim Benzema.

When Ronaldo was still in Spain, Messi never had such a massive advantage in the Pichichi race, which the former Real Madrid striker won four times.

The Argentine has now admitted to missing his old foe, and added that the whole league has lost a massive player.

"Of course, I miss Ronaldo, he made Real Madrid stronger," Messi told Fox Sport Argentina.

"I said that they were going to feel the exit of Cristiano, as it would have happened to any team.

"As any team would have missed him. They got mad in Madrid when I said it but it's the truth.

"A few people got angry but it's a reality, he scored 50 goals per season for them and it was a key factor in their success. The whole league misses him now."

Messi ended the 2018/19 campaign with 36 league goals, while Ronaldo scored 21 times in his debut Serie A season following his €100 million transfer from Real in July last year.
