Result: Liverpool 4-3 Crystal Palace

Date: 19 January 2019

Venue: Anfield

Ten-man Liverpool opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 4-3 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds appeared to be stumbling in the title race losing two games in a row before they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

Jurgen Klopp made three changes from their victory over Brighton, with James Milner starting at right back replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold who picked up an injury and Naby Keita also replaced the injured Georginio Wijnaldum while Joel Matip returned to the line-up to partner Virgil Van Dijk at centre back.

Roberto Firmino had a good chance to open the scoring for the Reds in the 13th minute after cutting inside to unleash a curling strike that missed over the bar.

However, Andros Townsend broke the deadlock for Hodgson's charges 11 minutes before the break with a low strike inside the box after a cross from Wilfried Zaha on a quick counter-attack.

Mohamed Salah levelled matters for Klopp's men a minute into the second stanza with a simple finish at close range after Van Dijk's looping strike deflected off a defender into the Egyptian's path.

Firmino gave the Reds a 2-1 lead seven minutes later with a curling low strike on the half-turn inside the box, with the ball deflecting into the bottom corner.

The joy was short-lived as James Tomkins restored parity for the visitors in the 65th minute with a free header at the back post, 2-2.

Speroni made a howler 13 minutes before time, parrying a Milner cross back to goals at the near post while trying to lift it over the bar but the ball fell kindly for Salah who finished it off to make it 3-2 for Liverpool.

The Reds were reduced to ten men two minutes before time as Milner picked up his second yellow card for a tackle from behind and was sent off.

Sadio Mane killed the game for Liverpool as he made it 4-2 in stoppage time with a curling strike into the bottom corner after breaking away on a counter-attack.

Meyer pulled a goal back deep in stoppage time for Palace but it was too little too late as the Reds held on for three points on home soil.
