Atletico Madrid have played down worries that the new injury which Diego Costa has picked up yesterday could keep their main striker out for the rest of the season.
Costa was stretchered off after he collided with the goal post when scoring Atletico’s second goal in their 2-0 La Liga victory at Getafe.
The striker showed obvious pain and his hands covered his face when he was carried from the pitch, while pictures from the bleeding wound raised fears of a serious injury.
However, his club soon played down any worries of a long-term injury by confirming on their Twitter that the issue was not too serious.
"Fortunately Diego Costa just has a cut after colliding with the post," the tweet read.
In his post-match press conference Atletico coach, Diego Simeone, also played down fears of an extended absence, saying “one more cut won’t do anything to this ‘Tigre’.
"Costa is fine, he is happy. He made a great effort throughout. He has a cut, but it's not a big deal."
To calm down the last doubters, Simeone’s press officer, Jose Luis Pasques, also took to Twitter and joked: "Relax guys," Pasques wrote. "It's all OK. Just need to fix the post."
Following their 2-0 victory and Barcelona’s 1-0 loss at Granada, Atletico now lead the La Liga table by three points. Cross-town rivals Real moved past Barcelona into second place with their convincing 4-0 over Almeria.
