Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, has confidently confirmed his side are true title contenders this season.
The Portuguese explained that his summer signings were great additions to his squad and he feels the Blues can improve on their performances from last season.
“We are title contenders, but if you want me to say we are going to win the league, I can’t say that,” he told the media in his pre-match press conference.
“Last season we were not feeling as title contenders but in fact we finished the league close to the title, we were not feeling as favourites in the Champions League but we reached the semi-final.
“This season we bought some key players to strengthen our squad and we believe these new players have brought our squad to a new dimension.
“But I have to respect the competition and the opponents as well as their efforts to improve their already strong squads, so I can’t say we will win the title.
“Any other team who wants to be a title contender, are welcome in the race. We are contenders.”
Mourinho confirmed that he can’t wait to get the season started against Burnley after a long pre-season.
“The pre-season was very long, for some players very short, but me and my team we started long ago. To be back to the real competition is a fantastic feeling,” he continued.
“For me to be so long to be without a proper match creates excitement. I feel happiness to be back for competition.”
The Portuguese also revealed that he will only tell his two ‘incredible’ goalkeepers on Monday who will be his first choice and praised both contenders Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois.
“For Chelsea football club it’s a great situation. We have two goalkeepers who would start in any other club in the world,” he added.
Chelsea start their Premier League campaign at Burnley on Monday.
