Meyiwa: I Miss Doing What I Love

Wiseman Meyiwa, the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder who was forced to retire from football earlier this year following a fatal car crash, has delivered a heart-breaking message to his fans on social media. 

The 19-year-old sustained vertebrae and spinal cord injuries that meant he would never be able to pursue his career further.

Chiefs confirmed his retirement in January at a press conference, with football manager Bobby Motaung stating the club had deliberately been silent on Meyiwa's future – after the serious car accident on November 3 – as a gesture to respect the player and his family.

A youth international who represented SA at the Fifa World Cup in 2017 as one of the key players, Meyiwa is in a wheelchair and returned home to KwaZulu-Natal to live with his family. On Tuesday he posted an emotional message, reminiscing about his playing days.

"I miss being on the field doing what I love," the tweet read along with a Bible verse from Psalm chapter five verse three.
