It is further claimed that Messi has not held discussions with Barcelona either, leading many to believe the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has no plans to stay at the Camp Nou.

Messi will be legally allowed to listen to offers from other clubs come the turn of the year, and will be able to leave the Spanish giants for free at the end of the season if he does not extend his current deal.

There should be new developments on the Argentina captain's future at Barcelona in January, when he enters the final six months of his contract in Spain.
