Baroka FC To Make History?

Baroka FC To Make History?

The Nedbank Cup, much like its English counterpart the FA Cup, is a pretty slanted tournament from the get-go, with the smaller teams not being given much of a chance. However, this year, there is a "small" side making some massive strides, and they have done it by beating the big boys. Do Baroka FC have what it takes to go all the way?

It wouldn't be the first time they have come close. In 2011, they sent shockwaves through the footballing fraternity when they overcame the likes of Moroka Swallows and the mighty Kaizer Chiefs.

Supporters Club caught up with Baroka FC fan Thabo Mabowa to find out how the supporters feel about their prospects going into the quarter-final against Polokwane City on Sunday.

"It's going to be a tough game, but we are going to the semi-finals," he said.

Mabowa says the club's supporters are jubilant at the possibility of playing in the PSL next year, but he believes they need to buy some players to beef up their squad first.

Baroka have not had an easy road thus far in the Nedbank Cup, having played only premier division clubs so far, unlike Mamelodi Sundowns, who have only played second division teams. With the odds stacked against them, however, Bakgaga have thrived.

They are also faring well in the NFD, and currently sit at the top of the log with 50 points. Interestingly, they have scored more goals than any PSL team, other than Sundowns!

A high-scoring team is always welcome in the PSL, but let's see how Baroka fare against Polokwane first.

"Let's go to Polokwane and get the cup. I believe in those boys!" Thabo concluded.

Do you think Baroka are better than some PSL teams? Will they give good competition to the big boys next year? Will they make history and be the first NFD team to win the Nedbank Cup?
