The Brazilians got off to the perfect start after securing a 1-0 win over South Korean side Ulsan HD on Wednesday.
Sundowns became the first African team at this year's tournament to record a win.
Dortmund, meanwhile, were seen as favourites in Group F but they started their campaign with a goalless draw against Fluminense.
Miguel Cardoso's charges head into the clash top of the Group while a win or a draw could enhance the team's chance of securing a spot in the round of 16.
