Orlando Pirates will be motivated to become the first side to beat Mamelodi Sundowns this season in the DStv Premiership when they clash on Saturday evening

DStv Premiership

Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Orlando Pirates

Date: 17 February 2024

Venue: Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Time: 20h00

After winning their first 11 games, Sundowns' winning streak was halted by Cape Town City in a goalless draw in their penultimate match before the break and were held to another stalemate by Polokwane City in their last game of 2023.

However, the Brazilians are still unbeaten, perched at the top of the standings, eight points clear, with two games in hand.

Pirates, on the other hand, had a bad ending to 2023 after back-to-back defeats to SuperSport United (3-1) and Stellenbosch (2-3).

The Buccaneers dropped down to fifth on the table with 25 points, 13 points behind Sundowns, having played two extra games than Masandawana.

The Tshwane giants won the first round meeting 1-0 courtesy of an early goal by Lucas Ribeiro Costa from the penalty spot at Orlando Stadium in September last year.

Sundowns have won the last seven leagues games against the Soweto giants.
