Bafana Bafana will be chasing a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages when they clash against Tunisia in their final match of Group E on Wednesday evening.

2023 Africa Cup of Nations

Teams: South Africa v Tunisia

Date: 24 January 2024

Venue: Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly

Time: 19h00

Bafana boosted their chances of reaching the last 16 after they bounced back from a 2-0 defeat against Mali with a 4-0 thrashing of Namibia thanks to a brace by Themba Zwane and a goal apiece by Percy Tau and Thapelo Maseko.

Hugo Broos' charges are currently in second place on the group with three points, equal on points with the Brave Warriors, who are third, with an inferior goal difference. South Africa need to avoid defeat to qualify for the last 16.

Tunisia, on the other hand, need victory to qualify for the round of 16 after collecting only one point so far and are bottom of the group following their 1-1 draw against Mali the last time out.

The Carthage Eagles were stunned 1-0 by Namibia in their opening group game.

The North African side will crash out of the tournament if they don't beat South Africa.

Bafana have met Tunisia three times, all in the Afcon and have lost the previous two, the last of which was in 2008.

South Africa's only win over the Carthage Eagles was in the 2000 Afcon after edging them on penalties in the third/fourth play-off spot following a 2-2 draw.

Here's how they line up:

South Africa: Williams, Mudau, Kekana, Mvala, Modiba, Mokoena, Sithole, Morena, Zwane, Tau, Makgopa.

Subs: Goss, Mothwa, Mobbie, Mashego, Xulu, Appollis, Adams, Maseko, Monare, Lepasa, Sibisi, Mayambela

Tunisia: Ben Said, Elabdi, Talbi, Meriah, Rafia, Ben Slimane, Laidouni, Skhiri, Kechrida, Jaziri, Elyes
