Zwane On Dortmund: One Thing I've Realised...

Zwane On Dortmund: One Thing I've Realised...

Mamelodi Sundowns have been backed to pull off one of the biggest upsets at the FIFA Club World Cup this weekend by one of their former players, following their impressive start to the competition.

Currently top of Group F after their 1-0 victory over Asian club Ulsan HD, Sundowns will face their toughest challenge in Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in a game that could potentially go down as one of the club's most memorable in their history.

Siyanda Zwane, who was part of the Sundowns team which went to the Club World Cup in 2016, feels an upset cannot be ruled out in Cincinnati tomorrow.

"One thing I've realised about this tournament is that everybody is beatable. You just have to believe. If Botafogo can beat PSG, Sundowns can also go all the way and beat Dortmund. One thing I like about this game is that we are underdogs and it's very dangerous to play against an underdog because they have nothing to lose," Zwane said to Soccer Laduma.

"I know that the boys will go all out and giving everything like they did in the previous match. It was important to win the first match because it's much easier to go face Dortmund. More than anything, I think it's good experience. Games like these tend to bring the best out of everyone because everybody around the world will be watching."

Key to Sundowns' success in the first game against Ulsan, according to the retired defender, was the presence of Themba Zwane.

After missing out on playing in both legs of the CAF Champions League, the Sundowns captain displayed why he remains a key component in attack for the Tshwane giants.

"I was excited even before the game started. When I saw the line-up, I saw Mshishi (Themba Zwane) starting, so I was already looking forward to the game. I've been saying we need him on the pitch and our prayers were answered. We saw him doing what he does best and you could see the confidence in the whole team when Mshishi was on the pitch. When Mshishi was on the pitch, you could see Allende and Tebza (Teboho Mokoena) having more confidence. Him being on the pitch gave Sundowns a different dimension because they were not predictable. It was also great to see Divine Lunga giving a good performance on the day. They played like champions," Zwane said.

Victory over Dortmund for Sundowns would confirm their spot in the last 16 of the competition.
