The story

Former Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch earned widespread praise from fans globally for his tireless display for Wydad Athletic Club during their FIFA Club World Cup clash against English champions Manchester City.

Although City secured a routine 2-0 victory with early goals from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku, it was the South African playmaker who caught the eye.

On loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, Lorch put in a standout performance, playing 83 minutes and showing flashes of brilliance by creating chances and taking shots despite his side's overall struggles.

After the match, the 31-year-old acknowledged on Instagram that the gap in quality between Wydad and the Cityzens was significant.
