'Matlhoko Can Fit In Well At Chiefs', New Interest In Striker

'Matlhoko Can Fit In Well At Chiefs', New Interest In Striker

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - NOVEMBER 03: Thapelo Matlhoko of Leruma United is challenge by Sibonelo Mhlangu and Pentjie Zulu during the Motsepe Foundation Championship

Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of Kruger United striker Thapelo Matlhoko will face competition as more PSL clubs are now expressing interest in the 22-year-old, the Siya crew has been informed.

With Matlhoko’s performances improving with every game, Golden Arrows are now believed to be joining the race to sign the talented forward, according to insiders privy to information.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi were the first to show interest in signing Matlhoko. However, insiders have now revealed that Kruger United will face a challenge holding onto their striker if they fail to secure promotion to the Betway Premiership.

"Apart from Kruger wanting to keep him if they are promoted to the Betway Premiership, there other clubs interested in him like Golden Arrows. There are another two but Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows are in the forefront right now. It won't be easy for whichever team wants him because Kruger value him and still need him. But you know, in football things happen just like in any other business. So let's wait and see," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

The player’s agent, Tebogo Moloi of TM Scouting, confirmed the interest from various PSL teams but insisted that clubs must engage directly with Kruger United regarding Matlhoko’s availability.

"What I know is Thapelo is a good player who belongs to Kruger. I don't want to see what happened to Ox (Sibongiseni Mthethwa), when he was at Black Leopards, happening to Thapelo as well. Those interested clubs should talk to Kruger and we will come in after that. But what I can tell you is that he can fit in very well at Chiefs with his style of play. But that's out of my hands as I have said though there is interest from different teams. He is still a Kruger United player," Moloi told the Siya crew.

Matlhoko has played most games for Kruger United this season. Despite a modest goal tally, his all-around performances have impressed scouts and strengthened his case for a move to the PSL.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Golden Arrows for comment but had received no response at the time of publishing.
