Lucas Radebe: Time For Change

Times have certainly changed with South African coaches making an impact in other countries and Lucas Radebe believes there's reason to be excited about what's to come in future.

There was a time when South African coaches were hardly taking on jobs outside the country, but the list now keeps on growing.

Pitso Mosimane, Roger de Sa, Teboho Moloi, Bradley Carnell, Morena Ramoreboli, Cavin Johnson, Fadlu Davids and Rulani Mokwena are some of the coaches who have worked outside the country in recent years.

This is is just one of the many examples of how South African football has improved in recent years and Radebe has explained why it's important for coaches to keep on making moves abroad.

"Time for change. I think it's important to see coaches and ex-footballers are getting into bigger roles. Not only just coaches, but they need to play other roles in organisations. With Benni leading the pack, as well as guys like Fadlu Davids, it's very important for our coaches in this country to show that we are able to go outside South Africa," Radebe told media earlier this week at a CAF press conference, where president Patrice Motsepe was announcing the renewal of their partnership with Africa Global Logistics (AGL).

"We are working on competing globally, so I think this is a positive way of showcasing that we are moving in the right direction with coaching and management, which is great. The beautiful thing is that we want to improve Africa first before we can go to Europe."
