Following the appointment of veteran administrator Khumbulani Konco as the new COO at Chippa United two weeks ago, plans are in place at the Eastern Cape outfit to strengthen the squad, the Siya crew can reveal.
The Chilli Boys had a morale-boosting victory in their most recent match against Golden Arrows on Sunday as they look to further improve their position on the DStv Premiership log and to move away from relegation zone completely.
The Gqeberha-based outfit made some changes to the team in their last two matches with goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali dropped for Namibian shot-stopper Llodt Kazapuwa, while Ugandan international Ismail Watenga has been on the bench.
News reaching the Siya crew is that Chippa are keen to make further changes to the squad, with former Bloemfontein Celtic goalkeeper Sipho Chaine expected to join the team.
During his time with Celtic between 2016 and last year when the Mangaung outfit was sold to Royal AM's Shauwn Mkhize, Chaine worked under Konco as one of his bosses when the experienced administrator was the CEO at the club.
"Chippa United is keen to strengthen its goalkeeping department and Sipho Chaine has been identified as a possible signing for the club," said the source.
Before the sale of Celtic, Chaine had signed a new long-term contract with the club which would have taken him to June 2024.
