Pirates Star Suffers Devastating Long-Term Injury

Just as Orlando Pirates prepare to close out the 2024/25 campaign, the club has been dealt a cruel injury blow with one of their midfielders now ruled out for the remainder of the season.

With only two matches left to play, Selaelo Rasebotja, a player who has shown glimpses of promise throughout the year confirmed his devastating diagnosis via social media.

In a heartfelt message posted from his hospital bed, the midfielder revealed that he has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), effectively ending his season prematurely. The injury required surgery, which he reports was successful, and his focus now shifts to recovery and rehabilitation.

"Definitely not how I would’ve loved to finish the season," he wrote.

Rasebotja made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Buccaneers this season. While he may not have been a regular starter, Rasebotja’s energy and versatility added depth to Pirates’ midfield, and this injury setback is a frustrating way to halt what had been a steady rise.

For Pirates, the timing could not be worse.

The Soweto giants are aiming to finish the season on a high and will now do so without a player who had been part of their rotation and long-term plans. Rasebotja’s absence also casts doubt on his availability for pre-season preparations, with ACL injuries typically requiring several months of recovery.
