With Orlando Pirates strikers Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa seemingly not the type head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou prefers at the moment, Junior Khanye has weighed in on the matter.

Makgopa and Mabasa were surprisingly not in the squad when Pirates opened their season in the MTN8 quarter-final against Polokwane City.

However, the two physical strikers not making the line-up was not a complete shock, as they have been also snubbed by Ouaddou in pre-season friendlies, with Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma preferred instead.

Mbuthuma replaced Radiopane around the hour-mark in The Buccaneers' 2-0 win over Rise and Shine, with Makgopa and Mabasa not making the squad purely for football reasons.

Former Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was often criticized for playing the former Baroka striker over Mabasa, who had a better goal-scoring ratio.

"The boy (Radiopane) is very dynamic, Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns, let me say South African teams, must play with dynamic strikers, sort of like Brazilians and Spanish (teams), he can play false number," former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye said on his YouTube Channel.

"We've got skilful players in the country, so what I want to see with Radiopane is him giving back to the coach, it's a give and take, if a coach believes in you.

"Pirates can't play with strikers such as Makgopa, no they can't. You need a star there, a number ten or striker that understands football, who can run off the ball, technically very good, awareness, who can play with his teammates. So well done to Pirates for believing in the boy, just that I'm asking him to score. Yes, I'm happy he created, an assist," Khanye added.

Playing Radiopane and Mbuthuma, both inexperienced, ahead of Makgopa and Mabasa, who have the experience, could be very risky for Ouaddou, even though it appears his system would be reliant on attackers such as Oswin Appollis, Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng getting more on the scoresheet.
