Gallants Waiting For Pirates Midfielder To Return

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 09: Phillip Ndlondlo of Orlando Pirates trying to stop fans during the CAF Champions League quarter final, leg 2 match between Orlando Pirates

Marumo Gallants are believed to be hoping to sign one of their former players from Orlando Pirates, the Siya crew has been informed.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Pirates are set to release some of their players at the end of their contracts, and it's believed that one of them has a chance to return to Gallants.

A transfer market expert with connections to both clubs has indicated that Phillip Ndlondlo is the player tipped with interest from Gallants when his contract reportedly expires this month.

"After releasing the players that the club has released it's believed that they are looking at bringing in some experienced players and apparently they are targeting Phillip Ndlondlo from Orlando Pirates. Yes, he is their former player and they know him and that's why they want to give him another chance," the insider told the Siya crew.

Meanwhile, a confidant at Gallants with knowledge of recruitment plans stated that they are watching the situation at Pirates first before they can make their decision.

"Yes, they want him to return to the team but they are not sure what's going on with him at Pirates and that's what they are waiting for. They are carefully watching the space before making the final decision but they are apparently believed to be looking at the situation to bring him back to the club," the second source told Soccer Laduma.

The 30-year-old joined Pirates in the 2022/23 season on a three-year contract, and this season his action was limited to only a few games in the Betway Premiership.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates and Gallants for comment but there was no response at the time of preparing this story.

The potential return of Ndlondlo to Gallants would represent a full-circle moment for the midfielder, who initially made his name at the Limpopo club before earning his move to the Buccaneers.

With limited playing time at Orlando Stadium this season, a return to familiar surroundings could revitalise his career. For Gallants, bringing back a player who understands the club's culture could provide valuable experience as they look to establish themselves under new coach Alexandre Lafitte.
