Pirates Midfielder Wanted In KZN

Pirates Midfielder Wanted In KZN

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - MAY 24: Karim Kimvuidi of Orlando Pirates during the Betway Premiership match between AmaZulu FC and Orlando Pirates

After 10 new arrivals were announced at Orlando Pirates, it's believed that one midfielder has a good chance of returning to his former club in the Betway Premiership, according to insiders privy to information.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, certain players at Pirates will either be loaned out or permanently released to create space for the new arrivals, and one such player should be a former Maritzburg United midfielder.

An insider close to the KwaZulu-Natal club has indicated that Durban City, who were previously known as Maritzburg United, are believed to have enquired about Congolese-born midfielder Karim Kumvuidi with the aim of luring the 23-year-old back to KZN.

"Talks have started between the two clubs concerning the possibility of Karim (Kumvuidi) joining Durban City. What I am not sure is whether it will be a loan deal or a permanent one. But Durban City are interested in him and it will all depend on the ongoing talks now," the insider told the Siya crew.

Meanwhile, a Bucs insider with knowledge of the club's strategy stated that Pirates are still looking at releasing a few players as a way of opening up space for new signings.

"About the players, at the moment they are finalising which players will leave the club and that's why there is the issue of Karim Kumvuidi being linked to Durban City who have so far been believed to have shown interest in him," the second source revealed.

Kimvuidi had joined Bucs in 2023 from Maritzburg United on a three-year deal which is expected to expire in 2026. In his first season, he featured in most games, scoring goals too, and last season he only played a few games.

Soccer Laduma contacted both Orlando Pirates and Durban City for comment but there was no response from both clubs at the time of publishing this story.

The potential return of Kimvuidi to his former club, albeit under a new name, would represent a chance to revitalise a promising career with a significant increase in game time.
