HT Analysis: Wits V Pirates
Nedbank Cup Final
Half Time: Bidvest Wits 1-0 Orlando Pirates
Date: 17 May 2014
Venue: Moses Mabhida stadium
A single goal from Jabulani Shongwe handed Bidvest Wits a 1-0 lead over Orlando Pirates at half time in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers only have themselves to blame for going into break a goal behind because they dominated the possession stakes, but failed to make use of their superiority.
Pirates controlled the midfield battle and bossed the game from the word go, but for all their possession they struggled to fashion any decent goal scoring chances.
Instead, the only goal of the half came at the other end of the park and very much against the run of play when Shongwe gave the Clever Boys the lead just before the half hour mark.
The goal gave Wits some confidence and they came into the game a bit more while Pirates looked a little rattled after going behind.
Neither team was able to add to the scoreline before the break.
Statistically, Pirates had more possession and more shots on goal with four attempts to Wits' three.
