Mandla Masango feels his former Kaizer Chiefs teammate Mulomowandau Mathoho had his fair share of success at the club and it was probably the right time to move on with his career.
Mathoho and Chiefs ended an 11-year relationship recently, with the club not renewing his contract after a season spent watching the Soweto giants' matches from the bench or the stands.
Mathoho was one of two remaining players from the generation which last won a trophy in 2015 under former coach Stuart Baxter, with Itumeleng Khune being the other. Khune's contract with Chiefs is due to expire at the end of June, but indications are that he will still be at Naturena next season.
"He (Mathoho) was injured, but I think his fair share (of success), where he won trophies and he represented the country while playing for Chiefs. At some point, as a player, you need to say I have done my share, I need to move on," Masango told media.
"There's a time where you leave your job. It's life. You can't cling onto your career forever. It's a cycle."
Masango gave his thoughts on the pressure currently on head coach Arthur Zwane, after the club failed yet again to win a trophy or even qualify for any of the CAF club competitions.
Amakhosi ended the campaign in fifth on the standings, a spot below than the position they finished in 2021/22. The club are understood to have approached Young Africans coach Nasreddine Nabi, with the aim of appointing him as head coach for next season.

Masango, however, feels Zwane should be given more time in the hot seat.
"Chiefs are in a building phase. You can't expect to have success instantly. He is a local coach and he has done well and he deserves a chance. You guys as journalists need to support him, not bash him. You guys have the power to make a person and break a person."
