A former Kaizer Chiefs player has urged supporters to be fair to head coach Arthur Zwane, as he pointed out that competing with Mamelodi Sundowns is not the same as it was 10 years ago.
Chiefs went into the break in fourth place on the DStv Premiership, seven points behind leaders Sundowns, who have a game in hand. It's been a difficult start for Zwane, but he has kept them in the race for the title, though there will be little room for error in the second half of the season if they want to have any shot of dethroning Sundowns, who are chasing their sixth consecutive title.

Former Amakhosi goalkeeper Brian Baloyi feels that it's harder for coaches in the Premiership to compete with Sundowns at the moment, unlike it was 10 or more years ago.
"If you are a Chiefs fan, you are used to Chiefs winning (titles) and all of that. But when you look at the amount of games played, he is doing fairly well. The club should know that they need to give him time. I am not saying they should give him as much time as they gave Steve Komphela, but the club has done it before who had enough time, like Muhsin (Ertugral) and (Ernst) Middendorp. My appeal to the supporters would be to say let's be fair and give him support, instead of criticizing," Baloyi said.
"Competing with Sundowns as opposed to competing with Sundowns 10 years ago is different. Back then, I'd say coaches from other clubs had a fair chance. Right now, if Sundowns has an unfair advantage, then be number two (on the table)."

Chiefs, who recently announced that Kappa will be their new sponsor from 2023/24 for an initial period of five years, will be back in action on December 31, when they take on KZN outfit Golden Arrows.
