A chief from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko has shared a update on the team's readiness ahead of their clash against Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup.

The Toyota Cup emerged as a pre-season fixture for the Amakhosi to face one of Africa's biggest sides ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

After a disappointing pre-season tour to the Netherlands that yielded just one win from five games, Nabi's side will be hoping to turn their fortunes around before the new season starts.

Chiefs were beaten 4-0 by Tanzanian giants Yanga SC in last year's edition, and now the Glamour Boys are gearing up to take on the Porcupine Warriors.

According to Africa Top Sports, Asante Kotoko's Interim Management Committee (IMC) member James Kwesi Appiah revealed his excitement for the upcoming clash and revealed his side's readiness for the game.

"I believe my players here are not going to let me down,” Appiah said. "It’s the Toyota Cup game, and it’s going to be very entertaining. I hope that we continue this relationship because it shouldn’t be a one-year thing."

The 25-time Ghana Premier League champions are reportedly using the fixture as a chance to test themselves against Africa's top sides

The former Ghana national team coach believed that the fixture is a chance to create long-lasting partnerships between clubs from other nations.

"These kinds of matches are not only for the fans but for the growth of African football,” he said. "We have a lot to learn from each other, and such relationships can open doors for players, technical staff, and even commercial opportunities," he concluded.
