'Bench Could Have Started': Do Chiefs Need More Signings?

'Bench Could Have Started': Do Chiefs Need More Signings?

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - AUGUST 27: Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi during the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns

An insider close to Kaizer Chiefs believes the team should resist the temptation to make further additions despite having space available, arguing that their current squad depth is more than sufficient for the challenges ahead.

The source's opinion comes after the club completed their 10th signing of the current transfer window, with many questioning whether more reinforcements are needed given the competitive nature of the upcoming season.

After unveiling new player Lebohang Maboe, an insider close to Amakhosi believes the club shouldn't be signing any more players for now, despite still having one foreign spot available.

"We don't have space for them now. Did you see how many players were sitting in the stands? You have to understand that (Asanele) Velebayi hasn't made the team. And Luke Baartman. And we still have (Nkanyisa) Shinga. And if you look at the bench, it was all good players. They could have started. That bench could have started. That bench, if you add two players, can start the match. (Aden) McCarthy, (Given) Msimango, (Rushwin) Dortley, (Etiosa) Ighodaro, (Samekelo) Zwane, George Matlou are in the stands. Even Happy Mashiane is in the stands. You understand? You also have Maboe in the stands. All those can start," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

This opinion represents the view of one source very close to the club and doesn't mean Chiefs won't sign another player. Things change and head coach Nasreddine Nabi may feel he needs another option for his team. Also, certain players may leave later, or injuries could throw a spanner in the works. So, with four weeks to go, it remains to be seen if Amakhosi have truly closed their door or not.

Amakhosi next travel to Durban to take on Golden Arrows on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
