JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - JANUARY 08: Fiacre Ntwari of Kaizer Chiefs during the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs' decision on their international goalkeeper might have changed as management opts to increase competition in the crucial position, the Siya crew has been informed.
There have been a number of reports in various media over the year speculating that Rwanda keeper Fiacre Ntwari may not be at Amakhosi for the 2025-26 season.
After reports stated that Tanzanian side Young Africans SC were linked with interest in the goalkeeper, Siya sources close to the club discuss what could have changed since then.
Insiders at the club have stated how Ntwari can compete with Brandon Petersen in terms of who will be the first choice this season. Chiefs' other option is Bruce Bvuma who started the last two seasons down the pecking order but gradually won his way into the starting XI for each campaign.
"Ntwari is an international goalkeeper and now has competition with other goalkeepers. (Nevertheless) He is with the team. It's believed the club wishes him all the best this season because he is a player with a position in the (Rwanda) national team. They want him to work hard to give excellent competition to Brandon (Petersen). I hope you understand. So, for now, he is staying at the club," the insider told Soccer Laduma.
Meanwhile, a second insider discussed why Petersen could start as the chosen number one this season.
"As much as it is believed that Petersen will be the first choice, Ntwari has to fight with Bruce Bvuma. The club wants to keep Ntwari for this season. It's not a guarantee who will be the automatic first choice. The club wants him to stay and compete," the second insider revealed.
Ntwari joined Amakhosi last season from TS Galaxy and in his first season, although he was initially tipped as the first choice when Itumeleng Khune departed the club, the 25-year-old didn't play as many games as he would have liked.
In the first game of this Premiership season, Ntwari was on the bench as Amakhosi took on Stellenbosch FC with Petersen producing a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory in the Western Cape.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs to comment on the goalkeeping situation, but the club had not officially responded by the time this report was published.
