Dumitru first came to Mzansi in 1985 to coach Kaizer Chiefs and went on to become one of the successful coaches in Mzansi's top-flight in an illustrious career that saw him also coach the country's two other big clubs in Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, as well as the South African senior national team.
In remembering Dumitru, who was regarded as one of the greatest football minds in local football, former Chiefs crowd-puller Junior 'Aghahowa' Khanye relives memories of playing under him.
"He was a father figure and he used to love me a lot. I referred to him as my father and he knew that. He was the one who gave me my first game at Kaizer Chiefs," said Khanye.

"Also, he was the one who called me and Scara (Ngobese) to Sundowns when we were supposed to sign there in 2009. He believed in me and at the age of 17, when there was no hope for Chiefs (for the match) against Sundowns after Jabu 'Shuffle' Mahlangu disappeared on the day of the game, he (Dumitru) sent people to fetch me from home in the morning although I had not been in the team. That's Master Ted. May his soul rest in peace," added the Daveyton-born player.
