Denials Around Okon's Next Move, Chiefs Watch

Ime Okon is on the verge of playing from Kaizer Chiefs next season.

Free-agent-to-be Ime Okon is believed to be on the verge of a high-profile move to Kaizer Chiefs, the Siya crew has been informed.

The Glamour Boys are looking to build on their Nedbank Cup success by assembling a formidable squad for Nasreddine Nabi ahead of the 2025/26 season, and the South African centre-back appears to be at the forefront of their plans.

The 21-year-old’s contract with SuperSport United expires at the end of the month, making him eligible to sign for any club of his choosing, and it appears the Soweto giants have stolen a march on their competitors.

Over the last year and a half, Okon has travelled to Europe to attend trials with Danish giants FC Midtjylland and, more recently, Ukrainian heavyweights Dynamo Kyiv. However, no official transfer materialised, leaving the young defender to see out the remainder of his existing deal with Matsatsantsa.

This has opened the door for Chiefs to pounce on the opportunity to sign the South Africa international.

Soccer Laduma has been reliably informed by a high ranking source, that Chiefs are keen on the youngster and look to secure a deal.

When this publication contacted the player’s agency, Football First, they vehemently denied the news, stating that the player had not agreed anything with the club.

His signing would mark a significant coup for Amakhosi, as his profile as a footballer—coupled with the fact that he was on the verge of becoming a free agent, with training compensation the only fee due to SuperSport—made him extremely attractive to clubs in countries such as Croatia and Belgium.

SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs were both contacted in an attempt to obtain a right of reply and comment on the matter, but neither had responded at the time of publishing.
