Comitis: 'Fair Play Not Exhibited' As City Prepare For Playoffs

Comitis: 'Fair Play Not Exhibited' As City Prepare For Playoffs

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 30: John Comitis, owner of Cape Town City during the Betway Premiership match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City FC

Cape Town City's legal battle has come to an end, with the club now shifting their full attention to the challenging promotion/relegation playoffs that will determine their PSL status for next season.

After losing their case at the SAFA Arbitration, City owner John Comitis believes that there was no fairness in the whole process, from the way the game between SuperSport United against Golden Arrows was handled to the case itself.

Speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma, a frustrated Comitis said now they have no choice but to concentrate on the playoffs and do their best there.

"We have accepted the decision, we have no choice. Fair Play was not exhibited, but that is our opinion. Now, we must prepare our team and be ready for the playoffs. We are well prepared for these games and we will give our best. That's what we have to do now," Comitis told Soccer Laduma.

Meanwhile, the Citizens boss further said that there were other ways the Arbitration or the PSL Disciplinary Committee could have handled the contentious match situation.

"They should have either ordered a replay, if that was within their powers, or declared it a forfeiture due to SuperSport United being the guilty party. Unfortunately, the arbitrator did not see it that way. He stated that they lacked the power to proceed in that manner and deemed it in the best interest of football to leave it as it was. Now our focus is on the playoffs," Comitis concluded to the Siya crew.

City's first playoff game is against Orbit College on Saturday, June 14, followed by a match against Casric Stars on June 18.

With their fate now firmly in their own hands, the Cape Town outfit will need to quickly put the disappointment of the arbitration result behind them. The playoffs represent a significant challenge, but also an opportunity for redemption after a difficult season. Comitis's determination suggests the team will be fully prepared for the battle ahead, with PSL survival now the only objective that matters.
