3 In A Row: Chiefs Suffer Another Friendly Loss

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a third straight loss in pre-season after going down 1-0 to Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi made a number of change as expected a day after playing FC Utrecht, although not one of the new signings were included in the starting line-up.

Much like Friday's loss to Utrecht, Nijmegen dominated possession from the onset and kept the South African outfit in their own half while carving out some half chances.

Chiefs, meanwhile, had to rely on counter-attacks to trouble to the Dutch side, with Mfundo Vilakazi and Pule Mmodi leading the charge down the flanks but they were unable to trouble the goalkeeper.

The Amakhosi did have to wait until the 37th minute for a clear-cut chance as Gaston Sirino weaved his way into the box before seeing his strike saved by the Nijmegen goalkeeper at the near post.

The early stages of the second half were a lot better for Chiefs, who got a few more touches on the ball although there were not many options going forward, which resulted in a few more back-passes.

Nabi responded by throwing on a few changes just before the hour mark, which included Glody Lilepo, Thabo Cele, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Naledi Hlongwane and new signing Nkanyiso Shinga.

Despite the flurry of changes, Chiefs conceded in the 72nd minute when a neat-passing move ended with substitute Koki Ogawa being slipped through on goal, before calmly slotting past Bruce Bvuma.

Another Chiefs youngster nearly made the perfect impact after Thulani Mabaso was slipped through on goal in the final five minutes, however the midfielder was denied by the Nijmegen shot-stopper in a one-on-one situation.

Here's how they started:

Chiefs: Petersen, Kwinika, Solomons, Miguel, Frosler, Zwane, Matlou, Sirino, Morris, Mmodi, Vilakazi
