An insider has provided clarity on the matter of 15-year-old sensation Mfundo Vilakazi who stole the show at the recently held Philly's Games.
Vilakazi, or 'OB' as he is affectionately known in football circles was the name on everybody's lips following his age-defying exploits for the Doornkop Student's team in the Tembisa-based tournament.
Blessed with an educated left foot and nerves of steel for converting not one but two match-winning penalties and guiding his side to a semi-final finish – the question on everybody's lips is, who is this kid?
After some digging by the Siya crew, it has now been revealed that Vilakazi is a Kaizer Chiefs development player as confirmed by an insider at the club.
The crew understands that Vilakazi turns out for Amakhosi's under-17 team.
With concerns about the player's age, information reaching the crew is that Vilakazi was born in 2005, which would in fact imply that the talented youngster will be turning 17 in November this year.
Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane took to Twitter to provide a sober assessment of how the prodigious talent should be handled, with widespread opinion that he is ready for the rigors of PSL football.
"Mfundo Vilakazi (OB): A talented young man, he needs to be protected, developed properly, get proper guidance and at the right time, be introduced. Just a thought and I know that it might be taken wrong. But anyway…" he wrote.
