The story
Orlando Pirates baller Tshegofatso Mabasa may not have finished his league campaign with a goal after his side's 1-1 draw at the Orlando Stadium against Magesi, still he showcased his empathetic character by paying tribute to Olorato Mongale.
The Buccaneers striker, who hails from Bloemfontein like Mongale, took to Instagram on Thursday to honour Mongale's memory with a post on his story, which included a snap of his wrist tape containing a "Rest in peace" message to the late Rhodes University graduate.
The tragic story of the 30-year-old Master's student from the University of Witwatersrand, who went missing on Sunday, 25 May, has gripped the nation.
Mongale's lifeless body was later found dumped in Lombardy, north of Johannesburg, after she was picked up for a date with her alleged killer.
As reported by local media outlets, just hours after police launched a manhunt and named three suspects in the case of Mongale's brutal murder, one of the fugitives named Philangenkosi Makhanya, was fatally shot by KZN police in Amazimtoti, south of Durban, in the early hours of Friday morning.
