The story

Kaizer Chiefs announced midfielder, Thabo Cele and one of their three January signings on Monday, who reached an agreement with the Soweto giants after his release by Russia's FC Fakel Voronezh last week.

The 28-year-old penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with Amakhosi, which includes an option for an additional year.

In the past, Cele mentioned his desire to represent the Glamour Boys and by achieving his long term goal, the talented baller continues to inspire young footballers from KwaMashu, a township situated north of Durban.

Hailing from an area that's famous for producing Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe and Orlando Pirates' Thalente Mbatha, the KZN Football Academy graduate stands as a source of inspiration to the youth of KwaMashu, both on and off the field.

Cele, who is affectionately known as the 'Mayor of KwaMashu' is the proud owner of Cosa Nostra, a boutique barbershop in section-G, the neighbourhood he grew up in.

The former Benfica B star launched an initiative last year titled, TC Projects, a charitable foundation that saw him give back to his alma mater in June 2024.

Cele donated footballs and kits while visiting Mukelani Primary School, where he also addressed the rest of the pupils in a kind gesture from the new Chiefs midfielder.
