The English giants got their Club World Cup campaign off to a brilliant start following their victory over the record Moroccan champions. Lorch put on a quality showing for the North African giants, but ultimately it was the City stars who made the decisive difference, as Foden and Jeremy Doku found the back of the net in the first half, which ultimately earned the Mancunians the win.
After the victory, the City academy graduate expressed how tough a task it was playing against Wydad. Foden told Channel 5: “I am very happy that the team started the tournament with a win. The match was difficult at times, especially with the high temperature.
"Wydad played a strong match. They were an organised team and dangerous on the counter-attack. They caused us a lot of trouble, which we faced with difficulty. We are happy with the performance and with the three points."
It has been a relatively poor season by the England international’s standards during the 2025/26 campaign, having only scored 10 goals and provided six assists heading into the tournament. However, he was involved in both goals against Wydad and hopes to carry this form into the upcoming season.
"I positioned myself well and followed the play. The ball fell in front of me, and I was able to put it in the net in a good way, so I'm happy with that,” he added.
"It's the start of a new season, and I feel better. I'm looking forward to what's next during this season."

"The tournament is very important, not just for me, but for all the players. It's important to regain your fitness now for a tournament of this magnitude."
