The story
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Ox Mthethwa, may have surprised a section of the Khosi Nation by stepping behind the wheel of a modest but classic Toyota vehicle.
The 31-year-old Maskandi fanatic, who has featured in 16 matches in all competitions for Chiefs this season, posted a video over the weekend of himself alongside his Toyota Corolla GLX ride.
It appears as if Mthethwa drives an early 90s Toyota Corolla 1.6 GLX 16 valve, a ride that's part of the sixth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate, and was introduced in 1987.
Now in its 12th generation, Corolla has been around for over 50 years, and more than 40 years in South Africa, boasting more than one million sales on local soil according to the Citizen.
Although Mthethwa's GLX isn't as popular when it comes to compact vintage cars, it enjoyed a boom in the late 80s and 90s with car enthusiasts and drag racers alike, with Toyota entering a sporty but comfortable era of their Corollas.
