The story
Four-time PSL league winner Bongani Khumalo recently sat down with SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe on the "Behind The Boot" podcast with Betway to reflect on his football journey, his life post-retirement, and his transition into the world of business and punditry with SuperSport TV.
His journey, marked by perseverance and resilience, paved the way for a smooth transition into his post-playing career, where he now thrives as a SuperSport TV pundit and an innovative business venture.
"I work with SuperSport, which I'm grateful for and I enjoy. All it is for me is, I do not see myself as an analyst; I see myself as someone who loves the game, someone who had an incredible experience in the game, and you just try and share the insights from your experience and what the game has taught you," said Khumalo on his broadcasting gig with SuperSport.
"Beyond that, I'm involved in manufacturing, and I work for a company called USP (Universal Safety Product), a local manufacturer of the U-mask, one of the best-performing masks you get in the world, let alone the continent.
"We basically create awareness for mine workers and any industry where you're exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes, that's what we cater to. We employ around 150 people, and we've changed lives," shared Khumalo, who serves as Director for the company and is grateful to be in a position to help people earn a good living.
"We're very aggressive, we're the only black manufacturers in what we do in the world. We have a world-leading product that we're proud of, locally manufactured. We're trying to resell safety and health," added the ex-Bafana skipper in his chat with Molefe.

Khumalo, who rose to prominence with SuperSport United before gaining international recognition at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, made headlines in 2011 when he left the PSL to sign with English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
In doing so, he became only the second South African to join the London club, following in the footsteps of Mbulelo 'OJ' Mabizela.
Although Khumalo never made a Premier League appearance for Spurs due to a series of long-term injuries, his time at the club offered valuable experience. He trained alongside stars like Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe and was loaned out to several clubs to gain match fitness and adapt to European football.
These included stints at Reading, Preston North End, PAOK Salonika in Greece, Doncaster Rovers, and Colchester United.
