DStv Diski Challenge Wrap

DStv Diski Challenge Wrap

Stellenbosch FC remained in pole position on the DStv Diski Challenge table following a 4-2 victory over Maritzburg United on Saturday.

Roy-Keane Avontuur and Lance Weaver gave Stellies the perfect start before Asanda Buthelezi handed United a lifeline only for an own-goal from Phiwayinkosi Zuma to restore the home side's lead.

Orlando Pirates solidified third-place on the table in the Diski Challenge with a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC in Tembisa on Sunday afternoon.

A penalty very late in the first half from the league's top scorer Boitumelo Radiopane was all it took to give the Buccaneers the win and maximum points in the process.

The Maroons secured a fourth in the latter stages through Oshwin Andries, as an own-goal from Kyle Jurgens handed United a consolation whilst the win ruled Orlando Pirates out of the title race.

SuperSport United kept their title hopes alive with the help of a 4-1 victory over Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.

United wasted no time to go ahead through a double from Sbusiso Maziko, who had a chance to get a hat-trick from the penalty-spot but missed though Tendamudzimu Matodzi executed on the follow-up.

Thabo September's boys weren't done and bagged a fourth courtesy of Thapelo Maseko in the closing minutes and left Samukelo Mzolo to hand Abafana Besthende a consolation off a smart finish.

Kaizer Chiefs resturned to winning ways in their penultimate Diski Challenge encounter with a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.

Defender Aden McCarthy granted the Amakhosi the lead early in the first and allowed Mfundo Vilakazi to double their tally before a penalty in the second half from Rebone Ntsoane got United a consolation.

Chippa United dropped further away from the top-four following a 1-1 draw against the bottom-half Swallows FC at the Makhulong Stadium.

Swallows led for large periods having gone ahead through a finish midway in the first half from Vusi Mkwanazi, but Ridwaan Cerfonteyn rescued the visitors from the jaws of defeat as it finished 1-1.

TS Galaxy weren't able to continue their winning run of form and furthermore cement fourth-place when they held AmaZulu to a 1-1 draw in Umlazi.

Initially, the Rockets were on the path to victory all courtesy of a finish from Sanele Zulu, but Usuthu levelled and snatched a point with an effort from the spot through Masuku.
