The most recent Egyptian Premier League runners-up stand a chance of redeeming themselves in a big way over the coming days. The Cairo-based club are aiming to retain their Egyptian Cup title next Thursday, but before that, they face a historic continental clash against Masandawana.
Pyramids FC have only lost one match in the Champions League knockout stages and remain unbeaten at home in the tournament this season, including the preliminary round and group stage. With the second leg set to take place at the 30 June Stadium, they will be fancying their chances.
They could now become the fourth Egyptian side to win the prestigious title, and a former Al Ahly sporting director believes they can join Ismaily, Ahly, and Zamalek in lifting the trophy.
Sayed Abdelhafiz, who was the Club of the Century’s head of football between 2010 and 2023, working alongside successful managers such as Mosimane, has expressed his support for Al Ahly’s cross-town rivals.
"I hope Pyramids win the CAF Champions League," Abdel Hafeez said while speaking on television, as per El Watan Sports.

"Especially since Sundowns played the final against three Egyptian clubs: Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids. It won't be like that, and Zamalek, will lose to Sundowns. As long as an Egyptian club participates in the final, I hope they win the title."
