In the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, 964, 'Go Man Go' revealed that based on his experience of coming up against the Ivorian giants during his playing career, he knew Chiefs would be defeated in their current form.
"Knowing Asec Mimosas well, I knew it was going to be very difficult for Kaizer Chiefs. They are a very formidable side, so I was not surprised by the result.
"Remember they are the same team that knocked out Amakhosi in the 2014 CAF Confed when the team sent Doctor Khumalo to the away clash, while Stuart Baxter stayed in the country," Maponyane told Soccer Laduma.
The Amakhosi face an uphill battle for progression towards the next stage of the continental competition, when they travel to face Mimosas in the second-leg on Sunday, March 20, with the game being scheduled for 17h30.
"They have players who are hungry and their team has a reputation to maintain in the competition.
"They have been up there and are now aiming to reclaim their position on the continent, and they will do it at the expense of anybody who comes in their way," Maponyane warned.
