CAF Champions League

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 ASEC Mimosas

Date: 12 March 2016

Venue: FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs fell to a 1-0 defeat to ASEC Mimosas in the first leg of their CAF Champions League tie at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs went close to opening the scoring after the 10-minute mark when Boti's back pass fell to George Maluleka, who was denied by a fine double save from Koffi.

The home side were presented with another chance moments later from a corner but Erick Mathoho's header was comfortably dealt with by Koffi.

The ASEC goalkeeper proved to be the busier of the two shot-stoppers in the opening stanza and he was called into action midway through the first half to keep out Maluleka's effort from distance.

Chiefs certainly created most of the opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, while it proved to be a quiet stanza for AmaKhosi goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune.

However, the visitors broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break courtesy of a well-taken header from Baka to secure a vital away goal.

Chiefs head coach, Steve Komphela introduced Hendrik Ekstein for Maluleka in response to going down on the hour-mark.

The home side pushed for an equaliser and were nearly rewarded before the 70-minute mark but Koffi produced yet another fine save to keep out Moleko's effort.

Komphela's charges continued to search for an equaliser in the latter stages of the half, with Mathoho and Ekstein going close. However, they could not bypass the ASEC defence.

Here's how they lined up:

Kaizer Chiefs: 16. Khune, 18 Moleko, 3. Mathoho, 26. Gordinho, 24. Masilela, 8. Katsande, 13. Baloyi, 11. Maluleka, 14. Tshabalalala, 25. Parker, 9. Abraw

Subs: 1. Pieterse, 23. Ritchie, 20. Mthembu, 27. Ekstein, 28. Matovu, 21. Gould, 30. Bukenya
