Broos, never one to shy away from airing his opinion, questioned both the motive and the timing of the unique tournament in which Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu will all be participating.
The Belgian coach had scheduled two international friendlies for his 23-man Bafana Bafana squad during the FIFA World Cup-enforced break against Mozambique and taking place in Mbombela between 17 November and 20 November 2022.
A large majority of the players selected for Broos' squad hails from these four teams, something that has left the coach dumbfounded, as he was hoping to have his players available at an earlier date.
"No, because I don't see the sense of it," Broos told journalists at the SABC when asked about whether he was comfortable with his players taking part in the competition.
"It's money, but I should be more happy when that tournament should have been played just before the league starts again. There are only four teams, eh? Now I hear that people can choose the team… Okay, it's publicity and I understand that, but why do it now? Why are we losing a week?
"They should be happy huh? Sundowns, AmaZulu, Kaizer [Chiefs] and Pirates to play this tournament one week or two weeks before the start of the league because they have good games.
"They are happy because there's money to win but I don't think players are happy to play such a tournament now and even the coaches, I think," he explained.
