Golden Arrows booked their spot in the Telkom Knockout quarter-final after defeating Polokwane City 1-0 in extra-time on Saturday afternoon.

Arrows were eager go on a cup run to put their disappointing league aside against a Rise and Shine outfit who reached the MTN8 semi-finals last month.

It was Steve Komphela's men who enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages of the firs half, but they found it tough to carve out chances in the final third.

Rise and SHine should have broken the deadlock after 28 minutes, but Mohammed Anas saw his effort cleared off the line by Gladwin Shitolo, although the Nigerian striker should have done better.

Arrows managed to carve out a couple chances of their own as the half went on, with Knox Mutizwa was denied twice in quick succession after the 35-minute mark as the tempo increased in the latter stages of the half.

The visitors were dealt a blow 10 minutes after the halftime break when Puleng Tlolane sustained a hamstring injury and was replaced by Bongile Booi.

Another chance fell for the visitors after the hour mark when Anas did well to play in fellow strike partner Lesiba Nku, but the Polokwane attacker failed to capatilse from close range.

With the hosts struggling to create chances, Komphela made his first change with 20 minutes remaining as Michael Gumede made way for Sibusiso Sibeko.

Despite the late the push from both side in the latter stages of the second half, neither could carve out a clear-cut opening which forced the encounter to extra-time.

Arrows finally got the break through 10 minutes into extra-time after Nicholas Motloung deflected Sibeko's cross into his own net.

Komphela's troops were able to remain resolute in the latter stages of the encounter to secure the win and a spot in the last eight.
