Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have a total of 72 points to play for in the business end of the Absa Premiership campaign.
Chiefs will restart the 2019/20 campaign still top of the log but have a challenging few weeks ahead to make sure that they don't lose the title to either one of their Soweto rivals.
What Chiefs need to do to win the league:
Ernst Middendorp's side tops the standings on 48 points and will need to make sure that they win all (8) their remaining matches in order to get their hands on the title at the end of the season.
By doing so, Amakhosi will be confirmed champions, ending the season on 72 points.
Where Chiefs could drop valuable points:
Chiefs face off with an unpredictable Bidvest Wits side on August 12 and 30. The Soweto giants are at risk of dropping valuable points against the Students, as Gavin Hunt's side will be the most unpredictable going into the encounter, given the current circumstances at the club.
If Chiefs end up losing or drawing on Wednesday evening and Sundowns win their fixture against the Bucs the day before, the Brazilians who are currently four behind would be within one or two points of catching up with Amakhosi on the log.
With that being said, Sundowns are eager to settle the score against Amakhosi and come August 27, if they bag all three points, they could take over the top spot on the log.
What Sundowns need to do to win the league:
Just like Chiefs, Head Coach Mosimane's side (44 points) will need to win all their remaining fixtures, most importantly their game in hand against Amakhosi, in order to be confirmed champions with a maximum of 71 points.
Where Sundowns could drop valuable points:
The Brazilians return to league action with a tough encounter against Pirates on Tuesday evening. Pitso Mosimane's side has already succumbed to the Bucs once this season.
If Sundowns drop points on Tuesday, it means that Amakhosi have the chance to increase their lead at the top by making it greater than the current four-point gap.
The tough fixture away against Chiefs on August 27 is another must-win for Mosimane's side as a loss could severley dent their title hopes.
What Pirates need to do to win the league:
The Soweto side is in fourth place on the log with 40 points and the maximum point tally they could end up on is 61.
In order for Pirates to win the league, they will need to win all their remaining fixtures (7) and Chief and Sundowns will need to drop around 12 points each.
Where Pirates could drop valuable points:
Pirates will lock horns with Sundowns on August 11, facing a Tshwane side who will be eager to settle the score with the Bucs while also increasing their chances at the title.
A loss for the Bucs on Tuesday evening could see them drift even further away from a possible three-way battle in the title race.
Josef Zinnbauer's side will also come up against SuperSport United in the remaining matches and given their poor form against Matsatsantsa, they are more likely to drop points against Kaitano Tembo's side.
