Michael Seleka Admits To Substitution Mistake

Michael Seleka Admits To Substitution Mistake

NWU-Pukke

NWU-Pukke coach Michael Seleka admitted it was a mistake not playing both Pitso brothers in their 0-1 defeat against UWC on Monday.   Kagiso Pitso and younger brother Gontse were in devastating form for the Potch team on the right and left wings respectively this season, however, Seleka thought it would it throw the Cape side off guard if he left Gontse on the bench.   "It was our strategy to put one on the bench and one starting, but it turned out to be our downfall," said Seleka,   "It would have been better to start both of them because they have been fantastic together this season."   UWC, to their credit, went away from their normal game to try an attack Pukke out wide and it paid off with the Potch team expecting a more central approach.   "It was a good game. We missed a lot of chances. UWC came with a different ball game and it worked for them.   "They normally play with balls up the middle, but instead they adopted our style of play and attacked with wings and it paid off for them," he added.   It was a bit of miscommunication between the Pukke goalkeeper and his defence which led to UWC's winner early in the second half, however, what disappointed Seleka the most was that his team did not support lone striker Patrick Lebitsa enough upfront.   "Playing a lone striker did not work out for us. He (Lebitsa) did not have enough support from his teammates and he had to fight for the ball.   "Our players also lacked technique in the final third with some of their shots and passes, which also contributed to the loss in the end," said Seleka.   NWU-Pukke are currently third on the standings, but will drop down to fourth if defending champions UP-Tuks beat Wits on Thursday.
