Former Kaizer Chiefs Defender Buti Sithole Still Haunted By Death Of Siblings Which Derailed His Career

Buti Sithole

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Buti Sithole is still haunted by the death of his siblings, something which derailed his career.

During the early stages of his career, while he was on loan at Zulu Royals from Chiefs in 2005, Sithole was involved in a tragic car accident which led to the unfortunate passing of his brother.

The duo were driving to be with the other family members as they had lost their sister when the unfortunate incident happened.

"My career was affected by the passing of the people who were very close to me and I was still very young. I was at AmaZulu (Zulu Royals) at the time and on loan from Chiefs when my brother passed away in a car accident. I struggled to come to terms with his passing as I had been driving the car. When my mother passed away I was at Chiefs and the club supported me very much. Even the club's supporters supported me so much and I remember that Chiefs' supporters' branch from Newcastle were also very supportive," said Sithole.

"When my brother and I got involved in an accident we were on our way to my sister's place as she had passed away in Pretoria. I had told my brother that I wasn't feeling well about driving as I was affected by my sister's passing and he said fine he was going to drive. But he got tired on the way after we had just passed Pietermaritzburg and asked me to drive and it was raining. I was driving a Golf Life at the time and unfortunately, we had a collision with a truck. My brother passed away on the scene and we ended up having two coffins in the funeral – that of my sister and the one for my brother," he told the Siya crew.

Sithole has retired from the game and he is only 34 years old. He has been without a club in the topflight since 2013, after parting ways with the University of Pretoria.
