EURO 2020 Qualifier
Result: Germany 2-4 Netherlands
Date: 06 September 2019
Venue: Volksparkstadion
Germany missed the chance to move top of Group C after suffering a 4-2 defeat to the Netherlands in a 2020 European Championship qualifier.
Die Mannschaft were relying on the attacking trio of Serge Gnabry, Marco Reus and Timo Werner to ask questions of the Dutch defence, that was anchored by the imposing duo of Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt.
The hosts had a positive start as Gnabry opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a strike on the rebound after goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen could not hold onto Lukas Klostermann's initial effort.
Reus was presented with a chance to double Germany's lead three minutes before the break after going clear inside the box but his attempted lob brought the best out of Cillessen, who produced a reflex save to keep the Dutch in the game, going to the break with only a 1-0 deficit.
Low's charges were finding opportunities to establish a two-goal cushion in the early exchanges of the second stanza and they were punished just before the hour-mark as Frenkie de Jong levelled matters for the Dutch with a composed finish past shot-stopper Manuel Neuer for his first international goal.
Ronald Koeman's men had their tails up after finding the equaliser as they eventually snatched the lead in the 66th minute through an own goal by Jonathan Tah after Memphis Depay delivered a teasing ball across the face of goal.
Germany were offered a chance to get back to the game with 22 minutes remaining after de Ligt was penalised for a handball inside the box. Toni Kroos stepped up to make it 2-2 from the spot-kick with a clinical low strike that sent Cillessen the wrong way.
Second-half substitute and debutant Donyell Malen restored Holland's lead 11 minutes before time with a volleyed strike past Neuer after being teed up by Wijnaldum from a quick counter-attack.
Wijnaldum sealed all the three points for the visitors with a fourth goal in stoppage time after a side-footed finish past Neuer following a delightful final pass from Depay on a counter-attack.
