A late goal by Thomas Muller sealed a 3-1 victory for Bayern Munich against Schalke on Saturday evening at the VELTINS-Arena.
Max Mayer cancelled out David Alaba's opener only for Javi Martinez to give Bayern the lead again. Muller ensured there was no comeback deep into the end.
Bayern Munich got going early when in the ninth minute David Alaba opened the scoring.
Alaba hit a left footed pile driver that went into the top right corner.
In the 17th minute Max Mayer equalised for Schalke. He hit a long drive following a fast break that hit the bottom right corner. 1-1.
In the 30th minute Robert Lewandowski hit a right footed shot from outside the box that was saved by Ralf Fahrmann.
Thomas Muller nearly snatched the lead in the 42nd minute but his shot from just outside the box was saved by Fahrmann.
In the 57th minute Muller was at it again but his shot from outside the box was saved by Fahrmann.
In the 69th minute Javi Martinez scored with a header from the centre of the box following a cross from Arjen Robben. 2-1.
Robben almost got a goal of his own in the 76th minute from a similar plot with Lewandowski turning to be the provider but his header missed inches wide.
Joel Matip almost equalised in the 88th minute but his right footed shot from the centre of the box missed closely to the right corner wide.
Thomas Muller finally made it into the score-sheet in the 92nd minute with a left footed shot from the left side of the box to effectively seal victory for the Bavarians.
