Saudi Pro League Side 'Enter' Race For Mokwana

A Saudi and Russian side are reportedly seriously trying to sign Elias Mokwana.

A Saudi Pro League club has reportedly entered the race to prise Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana away from Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis.

The 25-year-old attacker is coming off an impressive debut campaign with the North African giants. Mokwana scored six goals and registered four assists, helping the Blood and Gold extend their record of Ligue Professionnelle 1 titles to 34. He also played a key role in the club’s successful Tunisian Cup and Super Cup campaigns.

The former Sekhukhune United star only wrapped up his first season with Esperance late last month following the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Although the four-time African champions did not enjoy an outstanding campaign at the global spectacle, Mokwana’s performances throughout the 2024/25 season appear to have attracted interest from more lucrative markets.

According to Nessma Sport, Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hazem are keen to lure the speedy winger away from Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi after just one season.

Al Hazem recently gained promotion to the nation’s topflight after finishing third in the Saudi First Division League and are seemingly eager to strengthen their squad with the addition of players such as Mokwana.

However, the Middle Eastern side are not the only club reportedly keen on landing the South African international. The same report claims Russian outfit FC Dynamo Makhachkala are also actively pursuing the forward.

It is alleged that the Russian side have submitted an official bid in the region of $800 000 to Esperance. It remains to be seen whether the offer will be accepted, but one thing is clear — Mokwana is a wanted man in the football fraternity.
