Venue: Puskas Arena

David Alaba returned to the Bayern defence at the expense of Jerome Boateng while the Spanish were able to call upon former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who re-joined the side in the summer.

Alaba did not have the best of starts as he conceded a penalty in the 11th minute with a foul inside the box, which allowed Lucas Ocampos to hand Sevilla the lead from 12 yards.

After missing a number of good chances, Hans-Dieter Flick's eventually equalised 11 minutes before the break after Leon Goretzka unleashed a first-time strike beyond goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Lewandowski thought he had put Bayern ahead six minutes inside the second stanza after scoring with a tap-in from Thomas Muller's return square pass but the goal was disallowed for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The Bavarians found the back of the net again just after the hour-mark after after Leroy Sane smashed home a strike past Bounou against the run of play but the goal was disallowed again for a foul by Lewandowski in the build-up.

Youssef En-Nesyri had a counter-attacking opportunity for Sevilla in the last three minutes after running clear from the half-way line but he could not snatch the winner as he was denied by Manuel Neuer, sending the game to extra-time.

En-Nesyri had an early chance in extra-time with a snap-shot that caught Neuer's foot and came off the post before the German shot-stopper reacted the quickest to parry away the rebound from the Moroccan striker.

However, Javi Martinez completed the turnaround on the stroke of half-time with a header from the rebound after Bounou had parried Alaba's initial shot.

The Bavarians were able to see off any late charge from the Europa League winners to claim their first piece of silverware for the season.
